Overhaul to the gameplay
Dinosaurs » Devlog
I decided to make some major changes that will fundamentally change the gameplay and open space for more development in the future, including:
- Remove placement limitations, the player can place tiles anywhere on the map
- Show all available tiles at once instead of 2 at a time
- Remove all tiles from the stages other than the first stage, leaving only natural objects to build the island
- Change the point grading system to a simple condition-based one.
- Each condition is simple and represented by an icon
- Each tile use a combination of one or more conditions to determine its points
- Add Marsh, Sunken Ship, Forgotten Temple, Chicken tile
- Split the first stage into 3 sub stages where there are only tiles of a single category available for placement
- The categories, in order, are: Environments and Plants, Animals, Ancient Structures
- The difference to the previous 3 stages is that there is no point grading between substages
Future development ideas includes:
- Create a tilemap for the Field tile, so that the Fields placed adjacent to each other will connect to form a continuous Field
- Alow the player to jump into a cell and create a Rimworld-style colony from there
Admittedly, a lot of my initial ideas are based on other games that I liked, as this game itself was an offshoot from Tiny Islands by David King. But I put much effort to make my game something that I think is fun, so I don't consider it a rip-off.
Edit: I also remade all promo images, profile and preview images. Also new gameplay video on the way.
